The short version

Claude Code Weekly Limits Drop 17% on September 14 as Temporary Boost Expires

Subscribers on Claude Code Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans will see weekly usage limits fall 17% on September 14, 2026, per the ClaudeDevs account on X, as Anthropic ends its temporary summer boost and replaces it with a smaller permanent increase.

What happened

Anthropic ran a temporary 50% usage boost on Claude Code through August 31. The company confirmed the boost will expire September 13, with new permanent limits taking effect September 14 per the ClaudeDevs post. Those permanent limits sit at 25% above the original pre-boost baseline.

The math that matters for active subscribers comes out differently. If the original baseline is 100 usage units, the temporary boost brought current access to 150. The September 14 permanent level lands at 125. That gap is where the 17% reduction figure comes from, as confirmed by BleepingComputer's coverage.

Anthropic deleted an initial announcement thread after it drew backlash over the "25% raise" framing. In a follow-up post the company acknowledged the real-world effect directly. Per Anthropic's own clarification: "Compared to today, this works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code." Anthropic said it is working on changes that will give subscribers more visibility and control over usage, though no timeline was provided.

Why it matters

September 14 is a hard planning date for teams running agentic Claude Code workflows in production. An agent loop that fits inside the current 150-unit quota may breach the new 125-unit ceiling, and Anthropic announced no grace period for the transition.

The announcement episode is also instructive on its own terms. Anthropic led with "25% raise" language before acknowledging the reduction in a follow-up. For teams that model AI spend using vendor communications, the 17% figure, the number Anthropic itself confirmed, is the operationally correct one to budget against.

The cut applies uniformly to Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise. Max plan subscribers pay a premium over Pro and might expect differentiated quota treatment. Anthropic has not indicated whether that distinction is coming.

What to watch next

Anthropic flagged "exciting changes" tied to usage visibility alongside this announcement. If those changes include per-session breakdowns or dynamic quota controls, they could reduce the practical impact of the September 14 cut. Whether those changes land before or well after the new limits take effect is the first thing to track.

Also watch whether Anthropic eventually ties Max plan pricing to a distinct quota tier from Pro. No published differentiation exists between the two plans today.
