fal starts hosting FLUX 3 Max, pitching 22x faster video than Seedance 2.5

· by Pondero Newsdesk

The short version

fal.ai launched FLUX 3 Max on October 19, 2026, claiming a 10-second clip renders in about 12.45 seconds versus 277.80 seconds for Seedance 2.5, though an independent leaderboard puts the quality gap closer than fal's own marketing does.

fal starts hosting FLUX 3 Max, pitching 22x faster video than Seedance 2.5

fal.ai began hosting FLUX 3 Max on October 19, generating a 10-second clip in about 12.45 seconds against 277.80 seconds for ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 in fal's own published comparison, per fal's product page. That is roughly 22 times faster at a matching quality score, fal says, though an independent leaderboard tells a narrower story.

What

FLUX 3 Max is a video model fal Research post-trained on top of Black Forest Labs' FLUX 3 Video, aimed at closer instruction-following and shorter generation time, per fal's model page. It generates clips from 5 to 20 seconds at 720p, with optional upscaling to 1080p and toggleable audio, through separate text-to-video and image-to-video endpoints plus a keyframes mode that accepts up to 10 reference images. fal priced it with an introductory 75% discount running through November 7: $0.0425 per second at 720p, working out to $0.425 for a 10-second clip, per VentureBeat's reporting on fal's rate card. The regular rate after the promotion ends is $0.17 per second, or $1.70 for 10 seconds.

An independent leaderboard narrows fal's "tied for first" claim

fal's marketing describes FLUX 3 Max as tied for first place in image-to-video quality, citing a preliminary Artificial Analysis snapshot where it and Seedance 2.5 both scored 1,139 Elo. The Artificial Analysis leaderboard itself, checked October 19 by VentureBeat, instead lists FLUX 3 Max at 1,138 Elo (95% confidence interval 1,123 to 1,153), two points behind MiniMax H3 at 1,140, and even with Seedance 2.5 at 1,138. Because those intervals overlap, Artificial Analysis assigns FLUX 3 Max a possible rank anywhere from first to fifth rather than a confirmed tie for the top spot. Buyers evaluating the model on quality alone should treat "tied for first" as a vendor framing of an overlapping-interval result, not a settled ranking, and check the live leaderboard rather than the launch page before building a comparison into a pitch deck.

The speed numbers carry a similar caveat: fal describes its 12.45-second figure as an average for 10-second, 16:9 clips, and the model's own documentation notes that settings and operating conditions change completion time. A fast demo result is not a guarantee that every production job finishes in the same window.

What to watch next

Expect third-party speed benchmarks to test fal's 22x figure under varied prompts and settings, since vendor-reported multipliers like this one routinely get contested once outside labs run their own timing. Also watch fal's rate card after November 7, when the 75% introductory discount lapses and 720p generation reverts to $0.17 per second.
