Wistron opens $700 million Fort Worth factory for first US mass-production of Nvidia GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchips
Wistron's D1 facility in Fort Worth, Texas formally opened on July 21, 2026 as the first US plant to mass-produce Nvidia's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip. The 324,000-square-foot site represents a $700 million investment and turns Nvidia's stated $500 billion domestic manufacturing commitment into a functioning production address.
What happened
The plant currently runs two manufacturing cells. One is producing the GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip now. The second will produce the Nvidia Vera Rubin Superchip when that generation ramps. Per Nvidia's announcement of the opening, the facility is scaling to tens of thousands of boards per month this year.
Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang co-headlined the ceremony with Wistron Chairman Simon Lin. Huang signed the first GB300 unit produced on-site and described the system built around it as "the most powerful AI supercomputer in the world," per Nvidia's blog post. Each completed unit carries roughly 1.5 million parts, weighs two tons, and costs approximately $4 million.
The facility has created more than 500 jobs in Texas, with Wistron targeting 1,000 employees by year-end. Before the first machine came online, Wistron engineers designed and stress-tested the entire factory floor inside a digital twin built on Nvidia's Omniverse platform, validating assembly layouts and training workers virtually.
Wistron's D1 plant feeds into Nvidia's commitment to manufacture up to $500 billion in advanced AI platforms in the United States. The Fort Worth facility is one of the first contract-manufacturer sites in that network to reach full production.
Why it matters
For AI infrastructure buyers, the Fort Worth plant shifts GB300-based systems from a purely offshore supply chain to a domestic one. US-built units reduce exposure to cross-border shipping delays and may qualify for domestic-content provisions in federal AI procurement programs. That is a practical procurement consideration, not just a political signal.
The Vera Rubin cell also matters. D1 is not a single-generation facility. If Wistron hits its throughput targets on GB300 and transitions the second cell to Vera Rubin production on schedule, Fort Worth becomes a durable node in Nvidia's manufacturing network rather than a flagship announcement with a short shelf life.
Huang's remark at the ceremony captured the supply-chain logic plainly: "Building chip plants, packaging plants, computer system plants like this, and AI factories all over the United States, has allowed the United States to really reindustrialize for the first time in a long time," per Nvidia's blog.
What to watch next
Watch for the first hyperscaler to publicly identify Fort Worth-built GB300 units in a named deployment. AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud have each announced large Nvidia compute purchases in 2026. A named customer confirmation would signal that US-sourced AI hardware is moving at commercial scale, not just ceremonial volume. Wistron's Q4 headcount and any Vera Rubin production date are the two other near-term milestones to track.
