Stability AI raises $76 million as all three major music labels and EA co-invest in single round

Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, and Warner Music Group all put capital into Stability AI in the same round, joining Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures, and a set of returning investors. The company announced the $76 million Series B on August 25, 2026.

What happened

The Series B closed at $76 million, lifting Stability AI's total funding to $232 million across two equity rounds and convertible notes, per the company's press release. New participants include Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures, and Pacific Alliance Ventures. Returning investors Coatue, Greycroft, Kadmos Capital, Sean Parker, and Eric Schmidt also joined. Thomas Laffont, co-founder of Coatue, joined the board.

CEO Prem Akkaraju, who joined as CEO in June 2024, said the capital will fund development of Stability AI's creative production product suite, applied research, and professional services, per the press release. He described the investor group as affirming "our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician, and storyteller." Stable Diffusion has accumulated more than 350 million downloads, per the press release. Stability AI positions the platform for professional creatives working in music, gaming, and entertainment.

AMD Ventures' participation adds an inference-hardware angle. Stability AI has not detailed any chip optimization arrangement, but AMD Instinct accelerators are the natural counterpart to a venture investment from AMD's own fund.

Why it matters

Stability AI is now commercially entangled with the three companies that collectively dominate commercial music publishing. That gives the labels standing to shape how Stability AI handles catalog rights, whether as training data or licensed content for downstream tools. The press release discloses the investment but says nothing about catalog access or licensing terms.

For operators building creative-AI workflows on Stability AI products, that question carries real weight. A company with active financial ties to major rights holders sits in a different position than vendors currently facing major-label litigation over training data. EA's presence alongside the three music groups signals that game-asset generation is a stated target market. AMD's check points toward hardware-level integration for inference, which could affect deployment costs for teams running Stability AI models at scale.

The round also reflects a shift in how entertainment companies are responding to generative AI. Filing copyright claims and writing venture checks are not mutually exclusive moves, but the presence of all three majors in a single AI company's cap table is a concrete expression of industry strategy beyond litigation.

What to watch next

Stability AI has not confirmed whether licensing agreements accompany the investment. If catalog terms surface, the funding announcement becomes a structural content deal, and the competitive implications expand significantly for other generative audio and video vendors. A new product announcement targeting the music production market would be the clearest signal of how Stability AI plans to use the music-label relationships it has now formalized.
