Anthropic's S-1 shows Claude Code users spend 20 times more than other enterprise accounts

The short version

Anthropic's October 26, 2026 IPO filing shows the top 5 percent of Claude Enterprise customers running Claude Code spend about 20 times more per month than other enterprise users, alongside $16.3 billion in H1 2026 revenue and roughly 900 percent net revenue retention.

Anthropic's S-1 shows Claude Code users spend 20 times more than other enterprise accounts

Anthropic filed its S-1 for a public listing on October 26, 2026, and the filing discloses that the highest-spending 5 percent of Claude Enterprise customers who also run Claude Code spend about 20 times more per month than enterprise customers who skip the coding tool, according to the filing. That gap is the clearest evidence yet that Anthropic's own developer products, not just the base Claude API, are what turns a mid-size contract into a large one.

What the filing discloses

As of September 30, Anthropic counted more than 11,900 customers spending $100,000 or more annually, more than 1,900 spending $1 million or more, and about 250 spending $10 million or more, per the S-1. Net revenue retention sat at roughly 900 percent as of the end of the third quarter. More than half of the $100,000-plus customer group now uses both the Claude platform and a first-party app such as Claude Code or Cowork, up from about 30 percent at the end of 2025, TechCrunch reported from the filing. Revenue for the first half of 2026 reached $16.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion in the same period a year earlier, while the operating loss narrowed to $693 million from $2.1 billion. Net loss hit $80.7 billion, a figure TechCrunch attributes mainly to noncash accounting tied to convertible debt rather than operating cash burn. Anthropic plans to list under the ticker ANT and has not yet disclosed a share price or how much it intends to raise.

Governance and cloud-partner risk, not just growth numbers

The filing also sets up Anthropic's seven co-founders, organized as a "Founder LLC," to hold 50.1 percent of shareholder voting power after the listing, per the filing as reported by TechCrunch, a structure Anthropic says protects its safety mission but that leaves public shareholders with limited practical control. Separately, the risk-factors section names customer concentration as a specific threat to the business, and the filing states that AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure increasingly view Anthropic as a competitor rather than only a distribution partner, which Anthropic says could complicate its access to the compute those three companies control.

For buyers evaluating Claude against Copilot, Gemini, or GPT-based stacks, the 20-times spending gap is a data point worth watching rather than a reason to switch tools on its own: it describes Anthropic's existing enterprise base, not an independent benchmark of Claude Code against competing coding agents. The cloud-partner tension is the more concrete near-term risk, since Anthropic's own IPO filing says a cooling relationship with any of its three biggest infrastructure partners could affect the compute it needs to serve customers at all.

What to watch next

Anthropic has not disclosed a pricing window or roadshow date, so the next concrete milestone is that initial price range filing. Also worth tracking is whether the cloud-partner competitive friction disclosed in the S-1 shows up as a change to Claude's pricing or availability on AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure before the listing closes.
