Meta launches Style Sketch, an AI outfit planner, in three Southeast Asian markets
Meta put a new AI fashion app called Style Sketch live in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand without a press release or any public comment. It digitizes a user's wardrobe from Instagram photos, generates outfit combinations, and renders a virtual try-on.
What happened
The app connects to a user's Instagram account to build a virtual closet from photos already posted, or lets someone add clothing manually by photo, short video, or camera-roll upload, per the app's App Store listing. From that wardrobe, it suggests outfit combinations and renders a try-on on a model matched to the user's body shape and skin tone. It also builds day-by-day packing plans when a traveler enters a destination, trip length, and planned activities, factoring in the weather forecast. Social media consultant Matt Navarra posted screenshots of the app on October 28, 2026, and TechCrunch confirmed the iOS and Android listings the next day; Meta did not respond to TechCrunch's request for comment and has not said whether it plans to expand beyond that initial three-country footprint, per TechCrunch's reporting.
Meta is now testing AI apps instead of announcing them
TechCrunch counted Style Sketch as the fourth consumer AI app Meta has shipped with little or no announcement since August, following a vibe-coding app, an AI-video app, and the Tamagotchi-style pet app Waddle World. The outlet also pointed to an earlier Wall Street Journal account in which CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that AI-driven efficiencies have made shipping new apps faster and cheaper, and that he wants Meta to release far more of them than it has historically. For anyone tracking how a company Meta's size actually uses AI internally, the operative detail is the cadence: a narrow, no-comment soft launch functions as a live test rather than a product commitment, and that low cost is what lets Meta run several of these at once. A press push or a US or European rollout within the next few weeks would be Meta's signal that Style Sketch graduated from test to product; continued silence past that window means it is still just a prototype, not a market entrant.
TechCrunch pointed out that the app also lands in a market that already has competition: startups such as Alta offer similar wardrobe digitization, and Google Photos added a comparable feature earlier this year. If Meta tries to scale Style Sketch beyond its current test, its edge will be the photo library already sitting inside Instagram, not the novelty of the idea itself.
What to watch next
A US or European rollout would tell wardrobe-app rivals like Alta, and the teams building styling features into Google Photos, that Meta intends to compete on its Instagram photo library rather than just run a format test. Continued silence does the opposite: it keeps Style Sketch filed as a disposable experiment Meta can let quietly fail without anyone outside three small markets noticing.
