Beehiiv vs Kit (July 2026): which newsletter platform wins after the Summer Release
Two platforms just rewrote this comparison, and the pick still turns on one question: does your newsletter make money by being read, or by selling something? Monetize the newsletter itself, through ads, sponsorships, paid subscriptions, or a community, and beehiiv is the pick. Run the newsletter as a funnel to a course, a template pack, or coaching, and Kit is. Feature count is not the tiebreaker here. What you sell is.
Both shipped real updates since our May head-to-head. Beehiiv's Summer Release landed July 16 with Community, an in-app AI operator called Copilot, Programmatic Ads, Group Subscriptions, and a rebuilt editor. Kit's Craft+Commerce 2026 wave added Subscriber Signals, Newsletter Sponsorships, and an MCP that drives your list from Claude. Kit also did the quiet thing that changes the cheap-start math: its free plan now runs to 10,000 subscribers, four times beehiiv's free cap.
One deadline matters this week. Beehiiv's SRE2026 code takes 20% off any annual plan through July 31, per beehiiv's Summer Release page. If beehiiv is your pick and you were going annual anyway, that window closes at month end.
What each platform added in 2026
Neither release was cosmetic. Beehiiv pushed harder into the "newsletter as a media business" lane, per its Summer Release overview: a community your subscribers can't take with them, an AI agent that acts on your list, and automated ad fill. Kit pushed deeper into commerce and audience intelligence, per its 2026 release page, with an MCP that lands on its cheapest paid tier rather than a premium one. What neither closed is telling. Kit still has no native community product, and beehiiv's commerce stays shallower than Kit's storefront and tagging. Here is the delta in one view, with the plan gate on every feature.
| Capability | Beehiiv (Summer Release, July 16) | Kit (Craft+Commerce 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Native community | Community: channels, DMs, and gated paid spaces tied to subscriber data. Gate: any paid plan, so Scale up | None native |
| AI operator / MCP | Copilot in-app agent plus an MCP that reaches Claude and ChatGPT; usage metered by daily credits per plan | Kit MCP: tag, draft, and sequence from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor with per-write approval. Gate: Creator |
| Ads / sponsorships | Programmatic Ads auto-fills the Ad Network. Gate: Scale tier, rolling off a waitlist | Newsletter Sponsorships: brand matching, negotiation, and invoicing, you approve each advertiser. Gate: paid tiers |
| Audience data | Standard analytics dashboard | Subscriber Signals: high-value and intent scoring with verified audience data. Gate: Pro |
| B2B / team checkout | Group Subscriptions: bulk seats and an admin dashboard. Gate: Max only | None native |
| Writing / dashboard | Rebuilt Visual Editor, drag-and-drop, opt-in beta on every plan | Rebuilt Analytics dashboard and landing-page editor |
Plan gates per beehiiv's Summer Release overview and our July 19 beehiiv review, and Kit's 2026 release page and our June 29 Kit review. Prices pulled July 25, 2026 from beehiiv and Kit. The gates tell the story: beehiiv's new muscle is community and ad automation, Kit's is commerce and audience data, and both drew even on the AI operator that plugs into Claude.
The pricing, pulled July 25
Start with the free tiers, because that is where the two diverge before you pay a cent. Beehiiv Launch is free up to 2,500 subscribers, per beehiiv's pricing page. Kit Newsletter is now free up to 10,000 subscribers, per Kit's pricing page. That gap is new. In June, Kit's free plan capped at 1,000. A list sitting between 2,500 and 10,000 subscribers now pays nothing on Kit and at least $43 a month on beehiiv.
Paid entry prices favor Kit too. Kit Creator runs $33/mo on annual billing and Pro runs $66/mo. Beehiiv Scale runs $43/mo on annual billing and Max runs $96/mo. Both platforms price by subscriber band, so those are the entry-band rates and the bill climbs as your list grows.
| Your list size | Beehiiv | Kit |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 subs | Launch: free (cap 2,500). Paid: Scale from $43/mo, Max from $96/mo, per beehiiv | Newsletter: free (cap 10,000). Paid: Creator from $33/mo, Pro from $66/mo, per Kit |
| 10,000 subs | Past the free cap. Scale or Max only, priced above the $43 / $96 entry band, per beehiiv | Still free on Newsletter (10,000 cap). Paid tiers optional |
| 50,000 subs | Scale or Max, priced by the 50K band | Creator or Pro, priced by the 50K band |
Prices pulled July 25, 2026 from beehiiv and Kit. Both scale price by subscriber band above the entry tier, so budget against where your list is heading.
The annual commitment is the figure to sign off on, not the monthly sticker. Kit Creator bills $390 for the year and Pro bills $790, per Kit's pricing page. Beehiiv Scale works out to $516 and Max to $1,152 at the entry band, per beehiiv's pricing page. Kit is the cheaper annual seat at both the mid and the top tier before any discount, and its free plan carries a list four times larger than beehiiv's before either bill starts. That is the single biggest pricing swing since our May comparison, and it lands squarely in Kit's favor for anyone still growing an audience.
Two more numbers decide real cases. Beehiiv keeps a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions across every plan, so a paid newsletter costs you only Stripe's 2.9% plus $0.30, per beehiiv's pricing page. Kit's free Newsletter plan can sell digital products before you pay anything, per Kit's pricing page, which is why a course creator with an audience under 10,000 can now run the whole funnel for free.
The pick, by what you sell
Feature tables don't buy the plan. Your business model does. Here are the four operators who read a comparison like this, and the call for each.
Ad and sponsorship operators: beehiiv
If ad placements and sponsor slots are your revenue, beehiiv wins, and the Summer Release widened it. The Ad Network pools brand demand across the platform, and Programmatic Ads now auto-fills a slot with the highest-paying match instead of leaving you to sell it, per beehiiv's Summer Release overview. Kit's Newsletter Sponsorships matches you with brands and handles invoicing, but it does not pool demand the same way. Where it flips: below a few thousand engaged subscribers, no ad network pays much, so Kit's free runway to 10,000 subscribers is the cheaper place to grow until brands actually bid. Programmatic Ads is also still clearing a waitlist, so treat it as a reason to be on beehiiv, not a switch you flip day one.
Product and course sellers: Kit
Selling a course, a template pack, or coaching with email as the engine? Kit is the platform to beat. Commerce is native, the automation builder is the deepest in the category, and Subscriber Signals surfaces the buyers worth chasing, all covered in our June 29 Kit review. The free Newsletter plan sells digital products with no monthly fee, per Kit's pricing page, so you can monetize before you pay. Where beehiiv closes the gap: it keeps a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions and ships a stronger web builder and SEO archive, so a seller who wants a public site plus simple digital products, not a full storefront, can live on beehiiv. For anyone running launch sequences and a product catalog, Kit's tagging and checkout still fit the job better.
Community-first publishers: beehiiv
Want forums, member profiles, and gated spaces sitting next to your list? Beehiiv is the only one of the two with a native answer. Community ships on every paid plan, so Scale at $43/mo is the floor, and every post and reaction ties back to a subscriber record, per our July 19 review. Kit has no native community product at all, so this one is not close on paper. Where it flips: if your community is a live, always-on chatroom with voice, Discord still beats beehiiv Community, which lists video as coming soon and has no voice. Beehiiv wins when the newsletter is the anchor and the community deepens retention around it.
AI and MCP operators: it is close, and price breaks the tie
Both platforms went AI-native, so this is the one axis where they draw even. Beehiiv's Copilot acts inside the app, building segments and drafting launches on your own data, and its MCP reaches out to Claude and ChatGPT, with usage metered by daily credits that scale by plan (our July 19 review has the credit tiers). Kit's MCP connects Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Cursor, and it lands on the $33 Creator tier with per-write approval on every action, per our Kit review. The loop that sells it: ask Claude to find everyone who clicked a launch email but did not buy, tag them as warm, and queue a follow-up sequence, then approve each write before it fires, all without leaving the chat window you were drafting in. The pick: if you want the operator living inside the platform with the widest client reach, beehiiv Copilot; if you want MCP write control at the lowest price and you already sell products, Kit at $33. Price breaks the tie for a solo operator, since Kit puts the MCP on its cheapest paid plan while beehiiv's richer Copilot credits sit on higher tiers.
What SRE2026 actually saves
The 20% code is real money on annual billing, and it only runs through July 31, per beehiiv's Summer Release page. At the entry band, annual Scale is $43 a month, so $516 for the year before the code, per beehiiv's pricing page. SRE2026 knocks that to about $413, a saving near $103. Annual Max is $96 a month, so $1,152 for the year, and 20% off brings it to about $922, a saving near $230. Those savings sit on top of the annual discount beehiiv already bakes in ($71 off Scale, $157 off Max versus paying monthly). A discounted Scale year lands close to Kit Creator's $390 annual, which narrows a gap that normally runs the other way. Kit has no matching code, so its annual price is just the standard two-months-free rate. If beehiiv is your call and annual is the plan, buying before July 31 is the cheapest entry you will get this year.
The verdict
If your newsletter is the product and you earn through ads, sponsorships, paid subscriptions, or a community your readers can't take with them, pick beehiiv, and grab the SRE2026 annual discount before July 31. If you sell products, courses, or coaching and want the deepest automation plus a free tier that now runs to 10,000 subscribers, pick Kit, starting free and moving to a paid Creator plan the day you want real sequences or the MCP. The AI operator no longer decides it. What you sell does.
