Docs support covers drafting and rewriting with grammar correction; enable Gmail and Google Drive connectors and the model draws context from recent emails and files.

Why it matters

Google sells Gemini as the native AI layer inside Workspace and uses that tight integration as a retention argument. Any user can now install a competing assistant with a single Marketplace click, for free. That the add-on hit 6,000-plus installs within the first few days confirms the free-tier conversion path works.

Friction reduction is the practical win for teams already using Grok. Pulling spreadsheet insights previously meant copying data into a separate chat window and then manually moving results back. Keeping that loop inside the spreadsheet removes the extra step. Cell citations have a concrete value beyond convenience: they point to the source row rather than generating a summary that hides where numbers came from.

xAI gains distribution inside a suite where it had no prior foothold, at no cost to users who stay within free-tier limits.
